Tohei Koichi

May 19th 2011 five years ago today Koichi Tohei passed away. Tohei Sensei had a very profound influence on Aikido in Hawaii, teaching us to look beyond techniques and into ourselves. Here at the Nuuanu Aikido Club his influence is still felt today within our warm up exercises which where handed down to us from Tohei Sensei himself. In his teaching he said not to criticize others but learn from them, better ourselves and in turn help to further Aikido. Tohei Sensei contributions to our club and Aikido are beyond measure.

"Do not criticize any other martial arts or speak ill of others, as it will surely come back to you. The mountain does not laugh at the river because it is lowly, nor does the river speak ill of the mountain because it can not move" Koichi Tohei
